Knowing years in advance that the space shuttle would be retired and the U.S. would not have the capability to transport humans to space, the President and Congress did nothing to provide the right resources to change this. Now with the Shuttle just 2 years away from concluding operations, the "new" NASA Constellation human access to space program is being delayed to 2014 and beyond.
Will the latest situation with Russia finally provide the incentive Congress and the new President needs to adequately provide the private sector with the incentives and development money they could use to accelarate as well as begin development new human transport systems so that the U.S. could have at least one system operational within the next few years?
Time will tell, but let us hope the answer is yes.
